WAXAHACHIE – Ellis County Commissioners Court recently voted to begin the two-plus year process of implementing a new court system, court case management, and land & vital records management software.
The idea, according to a media release from Ellis County Judge Todd Little’s office, is to “integrate functionality between various offices and departments.”
The offices included to utilize the new software include the District & County courts, District & County clerks, Constable offices, and Justice of the Peace courts.
“Our law enforcement, justice system, and clerks process a large amount of vital records pertaining to different county offices, and this new network will enhance interoperability between these offices while also enhancing information security and creating much-needed efficiency,” Little said.
Commissioners voted to hire Berry Dunn and Equivant, an accounting/consulting firm and a software developer, to implement the new process.
According to a presentation given by Berry Dunn during a recent Commissioners’ Court, the implementation process will take up to 30 months and will cost $2.75 million.
The 30-month time limit overall stems from the need to gradually migrate an immense amount of data and information from current software systems into the new, cloud-based hosting service.
“Essentially, this software network will increase the efficiency of our services by providing a centralized system for various offices to utilize simultaneously,” Little explained.
The media release also indicated this project will finalize a five-year study that began with a committee analyzing case management systems dating back to 2019.
“Our goal is to make Ellis County government services as efficient and convenient as possible,” Little concluded.
“This goes for our internal systems as much as for our public-facing services.”
