ELLIS COUNTY – There was no further information forthcoming regarding a mid-June incident in which the Ellis County Sheriff’s Department assisted the Ennis Fire Department in a critical 911 operation.

However, it was recently recognized that Ellis County Sheriff’s Deputies Stephen Tiner, Tracy Hightower and Sgt. Benton Wright went beyond the call of duty when they assisted the Ennis Fire Department in the extrication of a patient from a vehicle located in the bottom of a creek.

There was also no further information supplied by press time as to how the vehicle ended up in the body of water.

What is known is the deputies stepped in and worked with the Ennis Fire and EMS personnel to remove the patient safely.

At last week’s Ellis County Commissioner’s Court, a presentation of certificates of recognition from the NCT911 District for three Sheriff’s Office employees was on the agenda but postponed due to the employees being in a training course the day of the Commissioner’s Court meeting.

Also, on the agenda at Commissioner’s Court last week, Ellis County Judge Todd Little presented an award from the City of Midlothian to the Ellis County Emergency Management team for their critical aid during the tornado that happened in Ellis County in April.

Little presented the award to Emergency Management staff and said, “In Texas emergency management becomes bigger and bigger every year with all the things that can happen and that do happen.

“We have to keep on top of that and keep our staff who work so hard motivated.”
