The Ellis County Republican Party prepped activists to advance the charge in block walking, campaign calling, and volunteering for election clerks and judges at their monthly meeting on Tuesday Aug. 4.

Jacob Bywaters, the Tarrant County Regional Director for Texas Victory, was a guest who presented the party with campaigning information and training.

TexasGOP.org states this about the organization, Texas Victory, “It is Texas Victory that provides state-wide field staff, supports and trains the boots on the ground that knock on doors, make phone calls, and send text messages.”

Ellis County has a strong red grass roots presence and was the deciding factor for the election of Congressman Ron Wright (TX-06) in 2018. Because of the strong Republican turn out in support of Wright in Ellis County, the District 6 seat in the House of Representatives resisted flipping blue.

Wright is up for reelection again in November in an extremely tight race for District 6, this time against Democrat Stephen Daniel.

Bywaters urged the Ellis County Republicans to help other races in Texas in counties like Tarrant and Collin. In those counties, the Republican Party are on their heels warding off potential seat flipping. Bywaters said, “We need all the help we can get. People in Tarrant county and Collin county are very worried. We need to go at it like we have to fight for every vote.”

With Governor Abbott extending early voting by six days beginning on October 13 due to Coronavirus concerns, the Ellis County Republican Party feels the pressure to turn the heat up on campaigning.

Kathy Ponce, a former Californian turned Texan is an activist at the forefront of the trail in Ellis county and assists in other races in other counties. “It’s important to understand whichever party controls the House is the party who will control redistricting.

Republicans lost 12 seats in 2018 and this election cycle the Democrats need only nine seats to control the House. The House draws the Congressional District maps based off of the census.”

The Party decided to name August 22, 2020 “Day of Action.” They will mobilize and campaign during the day for different races by block walking, calling, and texting potential Republican voters.

With this election year being hyper-charged by Covid-19, to mask or not to mask, protesting and riots, and the plethora of other issues plaguing the country, the activists in the Ellis County Republican Party are energized and ready to bring on what newly elected RPT Chair Allen West is calling, “The Red Storm.”
