ELLIS COUNTY – The Ellis County Commissioners Court read a resolution in support of the recognizing of the Ellis County Rural Heritage Farm as a possible Texas Historical Site.

Ellis County Judge John Wray said the home located at the farm was one of the most important in Ellis County, even though not the oldest.

Wray read the resolution highlighting the county placing a high priority on supporting and celebrating the rich agricultural and cultural traditions of the Texas Blackland Prairie.

The farm preserves and honors this history by showcasing the farming practices, community life and natural heritage that defined the Ellis County region.

Ellis County is located in the Blackland Prairie, which was named for its fertile black soil that sustained agriculture over the years while also defining the characteristics of the economy for the county, region and state.

The Rural Heritage Farm serves as a living testament to the resilience and contributions for the people of the area.

It also provides educational and cultural opportunities for present and future generations.

The resolution read that the Texas Historical Commission has begun the process of evaluating the Ellis County Rural Heritage Farm for its historic and cultural significance leading to consideration of the farm for a designation as a Texas Historical Site.
