WAXAHACHIE – Ellis County Commissioners read a proclamation recognizing Dec. 16, as a day of remembrance for Detention Officer Isaiah Bias.
Ellis County Judge John Wray said, “As many of you know, approximately one year ago on Dec. 16 we had a tragic loss in our Ellis County community with Detention Officer Isaiah Bias.
“We were all deeply impacted by his loss. He gave his life serving the citizens of Ellis County and the State of Texas, and we feel it highly appropriate to remember him on Dec. 16 of this year.
“We have a proclamation to present to his mother, Nathalie Barr.”
Wray read the proclamation stating Bias had served with honor, dedication and unwavering commitment to the safety and well-being of his community.
He had worked with the Ellis County Sheriff’s Department since the age of 14 when he joined the Explorers Program.
He had dedicated two years to the Explorers Program before joining the Ellis County Sheriff’s Department as a detention officer in 2019 at the age of 19.
Wray read, “This marked the beginning of a distinguished career defined by professionalism, service and loyalty to Ellis County.”
Bias had also been recognized in 2022 in a formal department ceremony for his promotion to Corporal, demonstrating his leadership skills and work ethic.
Earlier this week, the Isaiah Bias family remembered him at Pocket Park in Downtown Waxahachie.
In addition, the Sheriff’s Department also held a memorial for Bias that same day “to honor the courage he had to serve and the sacrifice he made in service of our community.”
