ELLIS COUNTY – At a recent Ellis County Commissioners Court, an agenda item of note involved a discussion with Ellis County District Attorney Ann Montgomery to set protocols established by the sexual assault response team.
According to Corey Rogan, Public Information Strategist, Office of Ellis County Judge Todd Little, “These protocols establish the general procedures followed to guide a victim of sexual assault through rehabilitation while preserving evidence for the District Attorney to prosecute the suspect.”
Overall, the agenda item was to update commissioners and the public about the new protocols, which Montgomery outlined in a presentation.
It was also revealed these protocols are already in effect anyway and will continue to be used until further notice.
The reason the item was introduced was according to Rogan, for Montgomery’s office as the chief coordinator for the prosecution process to have general procedures that the Commissioners Court was aware of since the DA’s office works directly with police agencies, medical facilities, and district judges to help rehabilitate a sexual assault victim while at the same time collecting evidence and serving arrest warrants during the prosecution process.
As for who is on the sexual assault response team, that is still in question as no one was able to confirm with Judge Little’s office regarding response team members either.
