Bomb threat shuts down Ellis County Courts

ELLIS COUNTY – Last week on Thursday, July 20, Ellis County Sheriff’s Office Communications received a report of a bomb threat in the Ellis County Courts on Jackson Street in Waxahachie.

The call came in around 2:40 p.m. according to the Ellis County Sheriff’s Office.

“The Ellis County Sheriff’s Office takes these threats very seriously and immediately first responders from multiple agencies assisted in an immediate evacuation and the establishing of a perimeter to secure the building,” said Sheriff Brad Norman.

“The DFW Airport Bomb Squad also responded to search the building and remove any possible threats if located. 

“The assessment however found no devices and cleared the building safe for service to be restored.” 

The scene was cleared by around 5 p.m.

Norman continued, “The Sheriff’s Office wants the public to know how seriously we take the threats to lives.”

Norman said the incident is still under investigation to identify the person(s) responsible for the threat.

“The Ellis County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the public for their patience and the agencies who assisted in evacuating and assessing any possible threats in the building” Norman stated, thanking the Waxahachie Police Department, the Waxahachie Fire Department, the Ellis County Emergency Management Team, the Department of Public Safety-Highway Patrol Division, the Ellis County & District Attorney’s Office, the Ellis County Fire Marshals Office and the DFW Airport Bomb Squad.
