ELLIS COUNTY – If you have noticed blue pin wheels and banners around Ellis County this month, it is because the county is committed to painting the town blue on behalf of National Child Abuse Prevention Month.
In Red Oak, Ennis, Ovilla and Alma, those cities have teamed up in partnership with the Ellis County Children’s Advocacy Center to raise awareness and stand up for every child’s right to feel safe, supported and loved.
Ennis’ police department planted a pinwheel garden with partners at Harmony Bank.
The PD explained that each pinwheel tells a story, “to ensure those stories are filled with hope and healing.”
In Ovilla they noted, “As beautiful as they are, each pinwheel represents a child in our community who is a survivor of abuse.
“We stand with these children and their families, and we hope they find strength and encouragement to move forward toward a safe, healthy future.”
National Child Abuse Prevention Month is a federally recognized observance officially designated by presidential proclamation since 1983.
The 2026 “Pinwheels of Possibility” campaign theme uses the pinwheels as a national symbol of child abuse prevention and it noted, “Each pinwheel represents the bright, healthy futures every child deserves.”
