ELLIS COUNTY – With the hope everyone is staying safe this season, here is one more scam to be aware of while out getting your last minute holiday shopping done.
Police in Ellis County want all to be aware of a scam going around involving gift card fraud.
In several cities across the country, suspects are going into stores and stealing inactivated gift cards.
They then take the card out of the original packaging and cut off the redemption code portion of the card.
From there the suspects place the worthless part of the card back into the packaging, reseal it, and take the cards back to the store where unsuspecting shoppers purchase the cards, unaware that they are missing the redemption code.
The store activates the card, but the redemption codes are in the possession of the bad guys.
