WAXAHACHIE – Displaying more than 500 entries, the youth of Ellis County showed their artwork and won scholarships, gift cards and ribbons. 

The annual Ellis County Youth Art Show was sponsored by the Ellis County Art Association, and was held at First Methodist Church in Waxahachie April 9-12.

Three scholarships were awarded to seniors. 

The Mox Moxley $5,000 scholarship was awarded to Kenadie Kanai from Ennis High School. 

The ECAA $3,000 scholarship was awarded to Ava Walton from Palmer High School, and the ECAA $2,000 scholarship was awarded to Nathaniel Lorenzo from Ferris High School.

Best of Show was awarded to Corinthia Wulf from Heritage High School, Jordan Hill from Finley Junior High, and Alex Carlton for the elementary award.

First place wins went to Kade Rose, kindergarten, Clift Elementary; Charlotte Royer, first grade ECAA; Analena Marquis, second grade, Simpson Elementary; Malakhi Wheaton, third grade, Simpson Elementary; Brooklyn Marchel, fourth grade, Simpson Elementary; Piper Avery, fifth grade, Felty Elementary; Felicity Riojas, sixth grade, Finley Junior High; Anahi Fraire, seventh grade, Finley Junior High; Esther Akers, eighth grade, homeschool; Adylynn Reynolds, ninth grade, Midlothian High School; Malia Blair, tenth grade, Heritage High in Midlothian; Calie McKinley, eleventh grade, Life High School and Zach Mitschke, twelfth grade, Ennis High School.

First place winners in 3D or Ceramics went to Madison Lynn, second grade, Midlothian Private School; Jacob Bankhead, fifth grade, Shackelford Elementary; Zaylee Webb, sixth and seventh grade, Midlothian Private School; Lily Smith, eighth grade, Midlothian Private School; Addison Sanfford, nineth grade, Midlothian High School; Sadie Zunica, tenth grade, Ennis High School; Josh Brazeel, eleventh grade, Waxahachie High School and Rosalie Popca, twelfth grade, Red Oak High School.

Sarah Bliss, art teacher from Clift Elementary, won the raffle for a basket of art supplies given as an appreciation of support. 

All first place ribbons received a $25 gift card to Hobby Lobby. 

High school Best of Show received $150 and junior high and elementary Best of Show received a free pass to ECAA’s Summer Art Academy. 

The Youth Show has been held annually in the spring for many years. It is open to all students from all schools, including homeschooled students, in Ellis County.
