RED OAK – The City of Red Oak Parks & Recreation held their annual Catch-A-Trout on Jan. 21 at the Red Oak Municipal Lake next to Pearson Park. The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department stocked the lake a couple days ahead of the event with more than 2,000 Rainbow Trout.
Kids were able to earn medals within age divisions for the largest fish.
This year’s attendance was much more than the previous year largely in part to nice fishing weather.
And despite a few early sprinkles, well over 50 kids were out fishing by 9 a.m.
The event lasted until 11 a.m. when medals were handed out by Parks & Recreation employees.
There were plenty of extra poles available, and the staff and volunteers assisted a lot of first timers.
With some colder temperatures forecasted this week, any left-over trout will survive for a while and will be hungry if you have time to do a little rare trout fishing in our area.
Be sure to visit the TPWD website for fishing regulations and licenses required. Pearson Park and the Red Oak Municipal Lake are located at 200 Lakeview Pkwy in Red Oak.
