MIDLOTHIAN – Shots were fired at deputies Thursday as they pursued a vehicle with five people inside.
The pursuit through Ellis and Tarrant counties ended in Fort Worth that morning.
An Ellis County deputy witnessed a person in a vehicle shooting at 3:22 a.m. in Midlothian near FM 875 and FM 663, deputies stated in a news release.
The vehicle also ran a stop sign at a high speed, according to Fort Worth police.
Shots were fired at the deputies as they pursued the vehicle, according to the release.
As the chase stretched to other jurisdictions, more agencies assisted, including Fort Worth police.
Police said they were also shot at during the pursuit and witnessed items being thrown from the vehicle.
Police attempted to forcibly stop the vehicle using spike strips but were unsuccessful.
The vehicle eventually lost control and crashed in the 6300 block of Camp Bowie in Fort Worth, police said.
Five people were in the vehicle.
Police said four of the suspects got out of the vehicle as officers commanded them, while one remained inside.
A drone was used to search the vehicle to declare the incident safe.
According to police, a man was found unresponsive inside. He and three others were taken to a hospital.
Police reported their injuries appear to be non-life-threatening.
A Fort Worth police officer was also treated for a minor injury.
A fifth suspect was taken into custody after refusing medical care, according to a press release.
