RED OAK – One person died and two were injured Saturday afternoon at around 4:27 p.m. when 19-year-old Andrew Lopez Jr. of Red Oak apparently lost control of the black Acura Integra he was driving and struck an oncoming vehicle.

The accident happened in the 300 block of North Lowrance at Pierce Road in Red Oak.

A preliminary investigation revealed Lopez was traveling north on North Lowrance at a high rate of speed. 

He was driving left of center when the vehicle he was driving lost control and collided with a red Jeep Patriot traveling southbound on North Lowrance. 

Dispatchers at the Northern Ellis Emergency Dispatch received the 9-1-1 call in reference to the major accident involving the two vehicles.

Red Oak Police Department and Red Oak Fire Rescue personnel were dispatched to the scene to investigate. At 4:28 p.m. officers arrived on the scene and began to examine the collision. 

Lopez sustained life- ending injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Dan Cox at approximately 5:05 p.m.

The driver of the second vehicle was a 22-year-old male with two passengers; a 22-year-old male and a 22-year-old female traveling southbound, and all three were transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital for their medical needs.

Police did not release the names of the driver or passengers in the second vehicle. 

According to the Red Oak Police Department, the accident remains under investigation.
