On the job training (part 1)

“A disciple is not above his teacher, but everyone who is perfectly trained will be like his teacher.”LUKE 6:40

Disciple means one under the discipline of another and in our case, under the Lordship of Christ. Being a disciple of Jesus Christ today is no different than it was in His day, a person must submit and follow the Lord in everything!

Sounds a little cultish but discipleship is the reality of having a relationship with God and giving up ones life to please Him and submit oneself under His Lordship. Today however discipleship in many cases is just Sunday school or a bible study or a teaching series, not at all what Jesus intended for His body.

If we are honest about being a disciple we must look at the pattern that Jesus gives us in His word and obey its commands. Becoming a disciple of the Lord Jesus Christ is the greatest honor anyone can have, to be a follower of the One who loved us and died for us that we might share His life with others.

“Whoever comes to Me, and hears My sayings and does them, I will show you whom he is like: He is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently against that house, and could not shake it, for it was founded on the rock. But he who heard and did nothing is like a man who built a house on the earth without a foundation, against which the stream beat vehemently; and immediately it fell. And the ruin of that house was great.”LUKE 6:47-49
