FERRIS – On Friday, Oct. 6, the City of Ferris and Ferris Department of Public Safety held a memorial service for fallen police offices Marty Steinfeldt III and Ben Wicker at the Fallen Officers Memorial in downtown Ferris.
“These offices paid the ultimate sacrifice protecting the citizens of Ferris,” reads the memorial.
Steinfeldt was shot to death in 2002 by Kent Sprouse, who was later executed for the killing.
Ellis County Constable James Ben Wicker died from gunshot wounds received three weeks earlier on Sept. 22, 1962.
The suspect, Bobby Bradford, was apprehended, sentenced to death, and executed on March 11, 1964.
