2022 WARBIRDS & WHEELS (photos by Chris Childs)

Hundreds of visitors attended the annual event Saturday, Sept. 3 to view classic military aircraft and a car show sponsored by the DFW Wing of the Commemorative Air Force.

The CAF was founded to acquire, restore and preserve in flying condition a complete collection of World War II combat aircraft which were flown by all military services of the United States, and selected aircraft of other nations, for the education and enjoyment of present and future generations of Americans.

More than just a collection of airworthy warplanes from the past, the CAF’s fleet of historic aircraft, known as the CAF Ghost Squadron, recreate, remind and reinforce the lessons learned from the defining moments in American military aviation history.

The DFW Wing is home to five vintage airplanes which are all flown regularly in support of the CAF mission. These aircraft are restored, maintained, and flown by CAF member/volunteers known as Colonels.

The DFW Wing Hangar is located at the Lancaster Airport, 650 Ferris Rd. in Lancaster.
