Norman wins sheriff run-off election

WAXAHACHIE – Voters in Ellis County took to the polls last week and elected Brad Norman to take the seat of Ellis County Sheriff in the county’s lone runoff election. Challenger Brad Norman saw a win with 4,212, or 58.63-percent of the vote.  Current Sheriff Chuck Edge received 2,972 votes, or 41.

Routine I-45 speeding stop leads to drug bust

FERRIS – On July 15, at around 3 p.m., Ferris K9 Officer C. Banks made a traffic stop for speeding on the north bound lane of Interstate 45.  Banks identified the driver and passenger of the vehicle, and based on several factors had probable cause to detain and conduct a search of the car.

Court approves tax abatement

Freshpet is on the horizon for Ellis County after the Ellis County Commissioners Court approved a 70-percent tax abatement from the county for the next seven years. The 24-month project will have boots on the ground at their construction site in August and begin inspections in September.

The Ellis County Republican Party heard from several candidates seeking election.  On Tuesday July 7, the event was held outside, there was plenty of room for social distancing, and it was hot enough to fry an egg on the sidewalk.

WILMER – Much like the fate of the Texas State Fair this year, the City of Wilmer has decided to cancel its Pioneer Day’s Festival for 2020 too. Held in the fall, Wilmer’s Pioneer Days marked its 35th anniversary last year, but this year due to COVID-19 the festivities will not happen.
