Late Friday night/early Saturday morning, someone driving in the City of Ferris decided to take a shortcut while making a left turn from Birch onto 5th Street. Luckily, there was only a street/stop sign in the way – two weeks ago there would have also been a chain-link fence.

BCD Guru 1923 won reserve grand champion bred-and-owned bull at the 2020 Texas Junior Angus Association State Show, June 6-7 in Belton, Texas. Brayden DeBorde, Bardwell, Texas, owns the March 2019 son of BLB Wanted B22. Clint Woodrow, Emporia, Kan., evaluated the 176 entries.

Head-on crash claims teen’s life

FERRIS – A 17-year-old died early Saturday morning in a wrong-way crash in Ellis County, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety. The crash occurred about 4:40 a.m. on the southbound side of Interstate 45 near Risinger Road, south of Ferris.

County approves COVID testing

WAXAHACHIE – The Ellis County Commissioners Court approved two items regarding COVID-19 measures on July 28 for county employees.  The first item approved was regarding the purchase of self-testing swab kits not to exceed $25,000.

ROISD trustee defends Sharia Law comment

RED OAK – Red Oak School Board Trustee Penny Story, place 5, defended her comments this past Friday night regarding a remark she made about Sharia Law. A special ROISD school board meeting was called, as some on various social media outlets said they were shocked at her remarks.
