AUSTIN – On Jan. 12, Jake Ellzey was sworn in as the Texas State Representative of House District 10 for the 87th Texas Legislature. “I’m humbled and blessed to be able to serve the people of our community. I will serve with honor, dignity and quiet professionalism,” said Ellzey.

State Capitol closed until day after Presidential inauguration

AUSTIN – The Texas Department of Public Safety announced late last week the closure of the Texas State Capitol “out of an abundance of caution” until Thursday of this week. The Capitol was closed from Saturday, Jan. 16 until Wednesday, Jan. 20.

Commissioners approve $50,000 for children’s advocacy

ELLIS COUNTY – The Ellis County Commissioners’ Court approved $50,000 last week with a nod to supporting the Ellis County Children’s Advocacy Center. On Jan. 12, county commissioners approved the authorization of a payment to the Ellis County Children’s Advocacy Center.

The National Rifle Association plans to move to Texas, pending ongoing litigation brought against it by the New York State attorney general, who has sought to dissolve the organization for violating its nonprofit status.

DPS recognizes AMBER alert anniversary

AUSTIN – The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) joined the country in observing national AMBER Alert Awareness Day on Wednesday, Jan. 13, marking 25 years since 9-year-old Amber Hagerman of Arlington, Texas, was abducted. Hagerman was found dead four days later.

ELLIS COUNTY – Even those Ellis County residents as far south as Italy saw a day of snowfall this past Sunday.  In fact, weather reports indicated the entire county got a sprinkling.

FERRIS – The Ferris City Council at a workshop Monday night listened as City Manager Brooks Williams proposed a solution for providing fiber internet to every household and business in the city.
