Ellis County Commissioners choose redistricting map with highest deviations

ELLIS COUNTY – Ellis County commissioners voted in a 3-2 vote last week to go with Map A for redistricting the lines in Ellis County, which will affect upcoming elections for at least the next 10 years.Map A deviates 9.76% from the current benchmark lines the commissioners are currently serving.

Suspects arrested on drugs, firearms, theft charges

ELLIS COUNTY – Four suspects were arrested last week for a variety of charges after a routine traffic stop by the Ellis County Sheriff’s Department.The Ellis County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division arrested three males and one female on November 1 at around 1 a.m.

Aggravated sexual assault charges filed against Christopher Daniel

FERRIS – The Ferris police arrested 37-year-old Christopher Daniel of Burleson on an unknown date and police did not respond by press time with further details of the arrest other than Daniel was arrested for charges of aggravated sexual assault with a bond set at $250,000.

Wilmer library reopens

WILMER – The City of Wilmer E.M. Gilliam Memorial Public Library reopened its doors Monday morning at 10 a.m. with limited capacity.Patron hours are Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and closed for lunch from noon to 1 p.m., and Tuesday and Thursday hours are from 1 to 5 p.m.

HUTCHINS – City of Hutchins Mayor Mario Vasquez said he was taken by surprise last week when Hutchins City Administrator Trudy Lewis resigned.Lewis’ last day is Dec. 6. She did not respond by press time with a statement regarding her decision.

Glenn Heights incumbent keeps his seat in City election

GLENN HEIGHTS – Three Glenn Heights city council seats were on the ballot in last week’s election for Places 1, 3 and 5.  All three incumbents remain in place.Two candidates vied for the Place 3 seat; incumbent Travis Bruton and challenger Juanyce Wilson.
