Look for creation of ESD 12 on May’s ballot
ELLIS COUNTY – The Ellis County Commissioners voted unanimously, with Pct. 2 Lane Grayson not in attendance, to order an election for May 3, 2025, for the creation of the Ellis County Emergency Services District #12 and to authorize the imposition of a tax.
During the public hearing pertaining to this item, two gentlemen spoke in favor of creation of the ESD #12.
One speaker lived in the City of Milford and had worked in fire service in the past. The second speaker was Milford’s Volunteer Fire Department Captain.
Ellis County Elections Administrator Jana Onyon told Commissioners Court the boundaries for the Ellis County Emergency Services District #12 cover the entire city of Milford and its ETJ. She said the Milford Volunteer Fire Department had received consent to have the election in that area. District #12 also encompasses a portion of the ETJ in the City of Maypearl, they have also agreed to the election. The fourth part of the ESD District #12 will be additional land in Ellis County.
Ellis County Judge Todd Little said both ESD Districts #10 and #11 were approved in November and he suggested after approval of ESD #12 in May there should be a map showing all the land the Ellis County Emergency District’s cover.
Little also stressed the growing importance of fire protection in Ellis County, citing the MUD districts and new developments.
“In some cases, there are roof lines 7 1/2-feet from each other with no fire protection, no water in the fire hydrants,” Little said.
