Ellis County and Covid-19: What you need to know

ELLIS COUNTY – As of Monday morning, Mar. 16 there were 167,511 Covid-19 (Coronavirus) cases globally, with 13,903 of those cases being reported in the last 24 hours. There were 6,606 six deaths as a result of that number, and 862 new deaths in the past 24 hours.

WILMER – A premier provider of trucking, intermodal and logistics services, Schneider opened its new operating center in Wilmer earlier this month with an open house and hiring event.
Future Chefs were judged on two criteria: presentation and taste. First place won a bicycle, 2nd place a new set of pots and pans, and 3rd place earned a dish set, cookbook and miscellaneous cooking supplies. Winners of the 2020 Future Chefs cooking challenge for Life School are: 1st Place – Hailee Mitchel of Life School Red Oak Elementary; 2nd Place – Victoria Turner of Life School Red Oak Elementary; 3rd Place – JaQualyn Woodard of Life School Oak Cliff Elementary; 4th Place – Isabel Felton of Life School

Ferris Mayor issues Disaster Declaration

FERRIS – The city of Ferris and Mayor Pro Tem Tommy Scott have issued a Disaster Declaration Order in response to the COVID-19 outbreak. This declaration is effective immediately, and will be in effect for the next seven days, pending a potential renewal and extension by a Ferris City Council vote.

Wilmer K9 Team makes drug bust

WILMER – The Wilmer K9 team of Officer Sawyer and his partner Mac made a successful drug bust last week during a routine traffic stop. On Mar. 11, Sawyer stopped a 2007 Jeep Compass after observing the driver had committed a traffic violation.

WAXAHACHIE — After the Mar. 3 Primary Elections last week, many candidates took home a win. Those candidates in some cases will not have to face off in the November election against a Republican or Democratic challenger. That was not the case for the Ellis County Sheriff election.
