‘And now, I am going fishing’

FERRIS – That’s what Wanda Curry, retiring Ferris Postmaster, said when asked what she was going to do upon retiring after 39-years with the U.S. Postal Service.

Her last day will be Dec. 30.

Curry began her career in October, 1983 as a mail carrier in Pleasant Grove. She was a carrier there for eight years from 1983 to 1991, and since has worked in several cities here in North Texas. She went from the Dallas area to Corsicana, then to Seagoville, and from there to Ennis as the distribution clerk.

In 2007, Wanda became Postmaster in Streetman, south of Corsicana.

Then in 2011 she became the Postmaster in Ferris, where she will be retiring at the end of this month.

Over the years she has seen first class postage stamps change from 20-cents to the now rate of 60-cents, and yet when compared to other costs it is still a bargain.

When stamps were 20-cents, gas was $1.16 per gallon, a loaf of bread was 98 cents, now $2.98.

A large Dominos’ pizza was $4.99, now $12.99. A can of Coke was 50 cents and now $1.00 if you are lucky.

Taking over the Postmaster position in Ferris will be ShaRon Tolliver. Tolliver is coming to Ferris from DeSoto where she has been Supervisor of Customer Service, and has been with the U.S. Postal Service for 26 years.

ShaRon is a 10-year U.S. Army veteran having served in the Signal Corp, and saw several overseas assignments during her service.

Curry is looking forward to retirement – and going fishing as often as she can.
