LANCASTER – Senior quarterback Trevor Hatton led a dominant air attack as Lancaster (4-4, 2-3) beat Red Oak 42-21 in a district 10-5A game.
The Tigers started fast with sophomore Tre Bradford taking the opening kickoff 70 yards to the Hawks 30. Hatton found senior wide receiver London Mcbay on the next play for a 30-yard touchdown pass to take a 7-0 lead.
Hatton finished 12-17 for 183 yards and three touchdowns. He added a 20-yard touchdown pass to Mcbay, then a 55-yard pass to Latrell Caples in the first half. Bradford scored on a 32-yard run to make it Tigers 29-0 at halftime.
With the Hawks starting QB Carson Forbes out with an injury and replaced by junior Zayid Aziz, Red Oak (2-6, 0-4), scored its first touchdown on a 42-yard interception return by Jacob Proche early in the fourth quarter. After recovering a fumble, Red Oak added a 14-yard Dantrail Richardson run to make the score 35-14.
The Tigers quickly answered, with Tramarcus Shamlin scoring again on a 41-yard run and going up 42-14, but the Hawks were not done. With 1:56 left in the game, C.J. Palmer found the end zone on a sweep.
After getting the ball back, Lancaster ran out the clock for the 42-21 win.
Lancaster had 207 yards rushing, led by Devante Lacy’s 100 and a touchdown.
Red Oak’s Palmer had 84 yards on 19 attempts and one touchdown. Proche had 80 yards on 3 receptions.
The Hawks (2-6, 0-5) travel again this Friday night to take on the Midlothian Panthers at Midlothian Multi-purpose Stadium. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m.
