DESOTO – Parents and district staff gathered at Thorntree Country Club to celebrate the achievements of the top 20 seniors of DeSoto High School at the Soaring Eagles Awards Banquet on Wednesday, April 20.

Dallas Fire Chief Eddie Burns served as guest speaker for the evening.

Burns, who holds several degrees, credits his perseverance which he believes has moved him up the ranks to be the fire chief of the eighth largest city in the U.S., and advised others that with the same perseverance, dreams can come true.

The formal event also included dinner, followed by an introduction and presentation of blankets to the Soaring Eagles; each blanket, made in the DHS school colors of green and gold, featured the student’s name in embroidery. A commemorative plaque will hang in the halls of DHS listing this year’s top 20 Soaring Eagles for years to come.

Full of delight, DHS Principal Cheyrl Ensley praised the seniors for their hard work and acknowledged the support of parents and guardians, "And remember, whatever you do and no matter where you go, you are DeSoto ISD."
