Cedar Hill - Cedar Hill Executive Director of Athletics Gina Farmer named Temple High School head basketball coach Tim Thomas, the new head basketball coach for Cedar Hill High School.

Thomas was recently named the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches "Coach of the Year" for 2009-2010.

Thomas was at Cedar Hill High School on Friday, May 21 meeting the team and staff.

During the two years Thomas was at Temple he led his team to be a regional finalist with a 29-7 record this year.

"Being named TABC coach of the year speaks highly for his reputation and success as a basketball coach," said Gina Farmer.

"I asked numerous people who was the best basketball coach in the state and his name kept coming up so I called him.

"I am so glad he agreed to lead the Cedar Hill Longhorns.

"Plus I like his expectation for not only athletic success, but academic success."

Thomas began coaching basketball in 1986 at Wayland Baptist University, and went on to have coaching stints at the University of Central Florida and The University of Texas-Pan American.

Since transitioning to the high school level in 1997, Coach Thomas has established an impressive record including six district championships and seven area championships.

As head coach at Lubbock Estacado High School (2000-2006) he lead the team to six consecutive playoff appearances and finished as state semi-finalists in 2003-2004.

"I feel very fortunate to be chosen by Gina Farmer and the Cedar Hill Administration to lead such a distinguished program and to be a part of the Longhorn family," said Tim Thomas. "It is gratifying to be a part of a premier school district and 5A basketball program with a tradition and reputation of striving for excellence.

"I am looking forward to carrying on the strong tradition."

"Current basketball coach David Milson is retiring after a successful tenure coaching the Cedar Hill Longhorns to an overall record of 559-207 in his 23 years," Farmer added.

Milson established the school’s 4A basketball program and led the transformation as it moved into the 5A division.

The team was a state runner up in 2004 and 2009.

Milson was named Coach of the Year for District 7 5A for the 2009-1010 season.
