RED OAK - The Hawks started off the 2010 year with a 10-0 victory over the Mesquite Horn Jaguars.
The Hawks were led by a strong pitching effort by Travis Wallis and Brent Fletcher combining for the first no hitter at Red Oak in Coach Autrey’s tenure.
"It is nice to see Travis heal-thy on the mound. He was not able to pitch last year due to some elbow problems.
"If Travis is healthy he is such a competitor it will bring a lot to the confidence of our team."
"We know what Brent can do. He won 10 games last year and is the anchor of our pitching staff.
"When Brent has the ball we have a great chance to win the baseball game."
The Hawks struck first in the first inning when Justin Mcormick drew a walk and scored on a two out single by Cody Alsup.
They then put up nine runs in the third frame to bring the score to 10-0.
Offensively the Hawks were led by Cody Alsup with three hits Tanner Milke with a triple, and Robert Elles with a RBI double.
"It was nice to see Cody get off to a nice start. He has worked hard all off-season to prepare for this year.
Offensively we swung the bats good for not having too much time on the field due to weather.
"It was a good win for our club. This game is all about confidence.
"When things go well you hope the guys will build enough confidence to battle through the tough times when the game throws adversity at them.
"One pitch at a time, one inning at time, one moment at a time. That’s what we stress."
The Hawks also traveled to Waco and competed in the Waco ISD Invitational Tournament last weekend. The Hawks started the tournament out with a win, but then dropped their next three games.
