RED OAK - The Hawks basketball teams made it a clean sweep over the Longhorns from WT White high school on high school basketball. On Tuesday, Nov. 17, the freshman boys got things started and set the tone for the night. Jumping out to an early lead, they never stopped playing. Constant full court pressure created numerous fast break baskets. The early outside shooting success opened the inside game late. The freshman boys rolled over their opponent 68-47. By the end of the third period, the JV team had a 10 point lead and poured it on in the fourth and won their game 66-42.
The varsity game was a fast paced affair from the opening tip to the final buzzer. The Hawks however, came out hot and never really cooled down. D.J. Brady (#23) opened the game with a three pointer while Mandel Dixon (#31) fought for loose balls and went to the foul line early and often, and 6’-6" Earl Graves made his presence known with a baseline dunk to get the crowd fired up. The Hawks knocked down outside shots early, but both teams exchanged four and six point runs and although the Hawks had the lead at the half, it was still anyone’s game.
Some late fourth period three pointers, fast break points, and dunks sealed the game for the Hawks as they cruised to an 87-70 win.
