Local high school athletes compete in UIL Track & Field Championship

ELLIS COUNTY - Midl-othian, Red Oak and Waxah-achie High Schools sent outstanding members of their track and field teams to Austin to compete in the 2009 UIL Track & Field Championship over the weekend.
Preston Sanders of Red Oak High School captured a state championship in the Boys Discus Thr-ow 4A with an overall distance of 184’05”.
In the Boys High Jump 4A event, Waxaha-chie’s Kennan Sherwood finished sixth with a height of 6’06”.
Brittanya Sterns of Wa-xahachie High School placed third in the Girls Shot Put 4A throwing a distance of 39’02.25”.
Midlothian stand-out Vince Frawley brought home a state championship in Boys Pole Vault 4A vaulting to a height of 16.00’.
Preston Sanders added to his state championship in discus with a second place finish in the Boys Shot Put 4A with a launch of 57’09”.
The team of Xavier Boyd, Sam Gagliano, Davion Don-alson and Ramodrick Waters from Waxahachie took state champion honors in the Boys 4x100 Meter Relay 4A with a final time of 41.11.
Waxahachie added a second place in the Boys 4x200 Meter Relay 4A with Sam Gagliano, Lajordan Easley, Davion Donalson and Ramodrick Waters running a 1:25.34.
Red Oak’s Kierra Hamilton finished seventh in the Girls 400 Meter Dash 4A with a time of 57.54.
Sophomore Carly Kitts of Midlothian decisively won the Girls 1600 Meter Run 4A with a time of 5:03.19.
“[The three week delay] was tough.I was ready to be done.I had to keep focused. I came out and ran my race. I was running with confidence and really happy to be here.”
