Palmer Lady Bulldogs strike out against Brock Lady Eagles
The Ellis County Press
The Palmer and Brock softball teams faced each other in the Region II Semifinals 2A at Mansfield Legacy High School last Friday and Saturday.
The two teams played a best two out of three series in which Brock easily dominated Palmer. In Friday’s game, the Lady Bulldogs were flat at the plate and in the field.
Brock plated run after run to hand the Lady Bulldogs an 11-1 defeat and go up 1-0 in the series.
Saturday’s game held more of the same action for the two teams. The Lady Eagles definitely came to play in the series, but the same could not be said for Palmer.
The Lady Bulldogs again str-uggled offensively and defensively in Saturday’s game. During their at-bat’s, the Lady Bulldogs continuously watched strikes zoom across the plate without any attempt to make contact.
When out in the field, there was an obvious lack of enthusiasm and hustle.
Little effort was made to catch balls hit on the ground. While fans wondered how Palmer was able to make it to the Semifinals, Brock was showing why they deserved to be there. Saturday’s game was scoreless through the first and second innings.
In the third, Brock scored a run making it 1-0. The Lady Eagles added six more runs in the fourth inning increasing their lead to 7-0. Three more runs by Brock in the fifth inning easily sealed a second victory against Palmer 10-0.
Brock scored their 10 runs on 13 hits and had one error. Palmer scored no runs on two hits and had two errors. After being 9-1 in District play and 21-5 on the season, the Lady Bulldogs will have to wait another year to try for a spot at the State Finals.
Brock will face S&S Consolidated in the Regional Finals, time and location TBA.
