RED OAK - The Red Oak Hawks baseball program is now in full swing.

With the varsity, JV and freshman players trying to make their respective teams in the final week of scrimmages, the JV and freshman teams played a rare Saturday afternoon pair of games on Feb. 14.

They hosted the Longhorns from Cedar Hill. Although no score was kept and each team’s catcher called balls and strikes, both teams came out swinging for the fence.

The Hawks freshman team had the first game and the coaches rotated the players to get one last look before making the always difficult final cuts.

Even though no one was officially keeping score, the freshman team definitely put more runs across the plate than the Longhorns did.

The JV team had the second game.

Good pitching, base running, and some great catches in the outfield by both teams kept this game close until it was over.

The JV coaches also rotated a lot of players in and out to get a final look before the final team is selected.

All three teams will begin regular season play the week of Feb. 23.
