Red Oak Hawks fall to Cleburne

RED OAK - The Hawks hosted the Cleburne Yellow Jackets in a non-district game on Friday, Jan. 6.

The JV boys had the early game and lost a close one 2-1.

The varsity would also see a close game.

The Hawks struck first on a great feed pass to a streaking Hawks forward who was able to get past the defender and go one-on-one against the goalie.

With the goalie charging from the net, the Hawks forward (#18) was able to put the ball in the goal for a quick 1-0 lead.

However, just before halftime, the Yellow Jackets were awarded a free penalty kick on goal.

The Hawks keeper made a great diving attempt for the block, but wasn’t able to get enough of his hands on the ball to push it wide and the game was tied 1-1 at halftime.

Cleburne scored another goal in the second half, but the Hawks mounted a flurry of shots on goal in the last few minutes only to be denied.
