Hawks knock off Terrell
RED OAK - The Hawks hosted the Terrell Tigers on Friday, Jan. 6 hoping to remain in the play-off picture and avenge a six point loss earlier in the season.
In what would turn into a physical game, but what district game isn’t right, the two teams traded baskets the entire first half.
During the third period, both teams were run up six and seven point leads only to see it evaporate. The fourth period is where the Hawks took control of the game with Earl Graves (#32) and Jimmy Granzow (#33) using their height advantage on both the offensive and defensive boards.
With the Hawks getting inside baskets, while opening the outside shots and the Hawks started dropping in three pointers almost at will.
Once the Tigers moved back outside to guard against that, the Hawks’ guards drove inside and got the Tigers in foul trouble.
Down the stretch, the Tigers kept it close with a few three pointers of their own, but it was the Hawks pressure defense and free throws late in the fourth that made the difference in their 51-42 win.
With the win, the Hawks move into third place with a couple more district games left.
The freshman and JV boys had the early games against Terrell.
The freshman lost a hard fought game, while the JV team rolled over Terrell.
The JV game didn’t start out well, but the Hawks soon found their three point stroke and began draining them from all over the court and quickly taking the lead.
The Hawks then went into aggressive mode and never looked back in their 70-59 win.
