FERRIS - The first time around Ferris handed Crandall a loss at Crandall and picked up a district opener win simultaneously.
Crandall made the trip to Ferris for the second match-up bringing their normal bag of tricks with them.
Crandall played their typical highly physical game and was all over Ferris starting with the tip-off. Ferris got on the board first and had a 6-2 lead with 2:59 left in the first period.
A free throw by Paul Alexander would increase the Yellow Jackets lead to 6-3.
Ferris would take a 10-8 lead into the second period of play.
The unusually low scoring by both times was attributable to the high percentage of missed shots from both sides.
Ferris had a 17-11 lead with 2:47 left in the first half of play, but Crandall would be allowed a 5-1 point run in the final minutes to go within two of Ferris at half-time 18-16.
Good free throw shooting by Tevin Richards and Jeremy Masterson in the third period aided Ferris in a lead of 32-25 after the third period.
The fourth period had fans from both sides on the edges of their seats as Ferris and Crandall battled back and forth on the scoreboard.
Jeremy Masterson hit two free throws with 6:58 left to increase Ferris lead to 34-27.
Crandall answered back and canceled Ferris two points with a three-pointer less than 30 seconds later to make the score 34-30. The back and forth scoring pattern would continue as the clock wound down.
After a pair of two pointers from Crandall, Coach Buck called a time out with 3:35 left and a score of 37-36 Ferris.
His talk worked its magic on the Yellow Jackets as they sunk a three-pointer with 2:37 left to raise the score to 40-36.
Crandall would score three more points while free throws from Casey Lemon, Paul Alexander and Tevin Richards would seal the victory for Ferris 45-39.
After battling their way past Crandall, the Yellow Jackets faced Venus at Venus Friday night. The Yellow Jackets dominated the Bulldogs from the very beginning of the game.
Ferris led Venus 39-19 at the half, but struggled yet again scoring a game low 13 points in the third period.
At the beginning of the fourth, Ferris had a 52-34 lead.
The Yellow Jackets went on to score a game high 23 points in the fourth period to take the win 75-45.
