Lady Hawks get big district win
The Lady Hawks, who are trying to get into the play-offs, needed to beat Lancaster on Jan. 29.
After loosing to Lancaster back on Jan. 3 by eight, the Lady Hawks were looking for payback.
The game started out a little rough for the Lady Hawks, but they were able to chip away at the lead and keep the first half close only down one at halftime.
The second half started out where the first half left off with aggressive defense and attacking the basket.
During the fourth period the Lady Hawks seem to have the momentum and had the Lady Tigers in foul trouble mid-way thru the period.
The Lady Hawks, who had struggled at times during the season at the free throw line, did not have trouble this night.
Late in the fourth, the Lady Tigers center fouled out of the game leaving Raquel Dent (#30) to own the paint and boards.
With the lead changing hands on almost every basket, the Lady Hawks defense stepped up on several critical turn-overs.
Raquel Dent (#30) had several key blocks and rebounds and Bre Burks (#14) and Brittany Lacy (#23) had incredible blocks from behind without fouling the other player.
In the end the Lady Hawks pulled out a huge district 56-53 win to remain in the play-off hunt.
However, they did not have long to celebrate their win as on Friday, Jan. 30, they traveled to the district leading (9-0) West Mesquite Lady Wranglers.
The Lady Hawks did not fair as well and lost 56-87.
The JV and Freshman Lady Hawks also won their games against Lancaster.
The JV team, with just one district loss on the year, is looking to finish out the season undefeated and district champions.
