ROYBA holds basket ball
On Dec. 20, the Red Oak Youth Basketball Association held its last day of practice games and its "Basket Ball" holiday community service event.
Players, coaches and parents from 17 teams sold raffle tickets for gift cards, including a $300 card for Target, to raise money to make holiday gift baskets for the senior citizens at the Red Oak Rehabilitation Center.
During the day, players, parents and board members assembled gift baskets to be delivered on Dec. 21.
The Dragons basketball team sold the most raffle tickets and the Marcelo was the Super Star seller and the team received a free pizza party and prizes.
Besides all the youth practice games, a coach’s game was held at the end of the evening.
During halftime of the coaches game drawings were held for the gift cards and then a kids contest was held.
All the kids were divided into two teams and each kid had to run down the court, put on a basketball jersey, then grab a basketball and take a lay up shot, put the basketball back, then run back and remove the jersey, then run back to the baseline so your teammate could do the same thing until all players had finished. The winning team received free snacks from the concession stand.
The league will begin regular season games after the school holiday break at the ACORN Academy and ROJH gyms.
