RED OAK - The Hawks shut down the Waxahachie Indians late in the fourth period to come away with a physical 68-59 win on Monday, Nov. 24.

The Hawks started off hot, but the Indians got things going midway through the first period and at halftime the Hawks were down one.

After the halftime break, the Hawks started to pressure more on defense and took away most of the Indians’ inside shots.

The Hawks started to pull away late in the third.

During the fourth period the Hawks began their full court press resulting in steals and fast break points.

The Hawks’ Earl Graves (#32) and Jimmy Granzow (#33) had some timely blocks and deflections forcing the Indians to shoot outside.

The offense, lead by Keenan Bennett (#10) and leading scorer on the night with 22, pushed the ball up the court every chance they had forcing the Indians to foul.

Although the Hawks struggled a little in the first half with free throws, down the stretch in the fourth period, the Hawks were having no troubles finding the bottom of the net.

The Hawks came away with a good "team" win against a good opponent.

The varsity squad went on to play Mesquite Horn on Tuesday Nov. 25, but lost a hard fought game 83-61.

The Hawks freshman squad also played Waxahachie on Nov. 24.

The freshman Indians got up big on the freshman Hawks, but the Hawks made it interesting late in the fourth, but eventually fell 58-33.
