SAGU loses 82-74 to Bethel College

Newton, KS—The SAGU Men’s Basketball team was looking to grab their third win of the season after a double-overtime win on Friday night in Newton, KS over Friends University.

Standing in their way was Bethel College, the host college of the basketball classic this weekend. Bethel lost to fellow Red River Conference member Langston last night, 87-84.

The Threshers narrowly edged the Lions in the first half by a 36-34 score. Both teams host 45% from the field in the first twenty minutes.

In the second half, SAGU out shot Bethel 44 to 41 percent, but the Threshers hit 15 of 19 free throws while the Lions hit 9 of 15 free throws enroute to a 46-40 second half score in favor of Bethel College. The Lions split their weekend in Kansas by falling 82-74 to the Threshers.

Chris Vallaiere scored 23 points to lead SAGU while Jon Black grabbed ten rebounds to lead in the boards category. Also worth noting was Gerren Hamilton’s seven assists.

SAGU’s next game of record will be Friday night at 8pm in the Full Life Center when they will host Southwestern College at 8 p.m. on the first night of the SAGU Basketball Classic.
