ENNIS – Former star defensive back Marlon Jones was arrested for criminal mischief and theft charges, according to arrest reports from the Ennis Police Department.
Arrested Oct. 23 for the criminal mischief charge, EPD followed up with another set of allegations, which include stealing a Cingular cellphone and $500 worth of jewelry.
Several years ago, Jones served five years deferred adjudication after striking and killing two women walking alongside an Ennis highway.
One of the victim’s mothers, Audrey Merritt, said this latest incident with Jones – who was allowed to suit for a football game up two days after the girls’ deaths – said he’s now "paying" for what he didn’t get punished for several years ago. After the five-year probation sentence, Jones’ record is expected to be wiped clean of the first incident.
