Waxahachie - SAGU Football opened the season on Saturday night in Waxahachie against Austin College. Austin College was looking for their third win against SAGU in as many years.

And the start of the game was ominous for the Lions as on their first possession, on a bad snap on a punt, lead to a safety to give the Kangaroos a 2-0 lead.

With nine minutes left in the first quarter, Joseph Garcia hit David Howard on a seam route as Howard beat the AC safety by two steps.

With a perfect pass from Garcia, Howard ran in for the 59 yard strike.

A missed extra point put SAGU up 6-0.

At half the Lions has 180-yards of total offensive to the Kangaroos 99-yards. Howard had racked up 130 yard of receiving. It took most of the third quarter, but Austin College put together a 16 play 86-yard drive which ended with a one yard touchdown run. After a missed two-point conversion and the Lions led 13-8.

Next the Lions travel to Alpine for a Saturday contest with Sul Ross University. This time they go having already entered the win column.
