Waxahachie - SAGU Soccer began their season preparation Saturday morning, Aug. 2.

But for the second year in a row, it is not starting in the traditional fashion as for most schools.

After two days of prep, the SAGU Men’s and Women’s Soccer roster is traveling to Monterrey, Mexico with Head Coach Jeremy Tosaya and Asst. Coach Tim Grant.

Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday the SAGU Athletes will be doing soccer clinics in the morning and Kids Crusades in the afternoon with other church groups.

Last year the soccer teams did the same kind of trip to kick off their season, making kind of a SAGU tradition.

Making the trip this year for the women is JoAnna O’Conner, Tracy Griffin, Leah Richardson, Sarah Powell, Elyse James, Michelle Ellis, Leticia Lariz, Victoria Munoz, Daniela Garcia and Kendall Murders.

For the men Shea McPhail, Kyle Mendoza, Danny Martinez and Fernando Lariz will make the trip. The Soccer Lions will open their season on Aug. 25 with a women’s and men’s doubleheader against Dallas Christian College.
