FERRIS - Two Ferris girls are playing in the ASA 18U Gold National Fastpitch Championships in Oklahoma City this week.

Maggie Sands and Marissa Koetting both seniors at FHS and starting members of the Lady Yellow Jacket Softball team have traveled to the ASA Hall of Fame Stadium, home of the USA Olympic Softball team, to play in this prestigious tournament with The North Texas Fusion Fastpitch team.

As was mentioned last week in the story by Phil Marks, this is the top tournament in the country for High School age girls.

Out of sixty four teams invited to play Ellis County is represented on three of the teams in attendance!

From North Texas Fusion-Maggie Sands and Marissa Koetting of Ferris, from The Texas Glory-Brittany Carruthers of Midlothian and from The Travelers-Shelby Hall of Red Oak.

Both Maggie and Marissa have played softball since their T-Ball days with the Ferris Sports Association.

During the past four years their season has been almost year round with school ball starting in February and ending in June and Select Ball starting immediately after the school season running into December.

So they have put a lot of hard work into getting to play at this level. Both girls plan to play in college.
