Softball team run-rules Dublin
MAYPEARL – The Maypearl Lady Panther softball team was at home Friday night and played the Dublin Lady Lions. The Panthers scored runs in bunches, four in the first inning, three in the fourth and three in the fifth to run-rule the Lions 10-0.
Brittany Widner was in the circle for Maypearl and went the distance; she gave up just two hits and struck out seven batters with no walks.
In the bottom of the first inning, Panther Ryann Jones led off with a single to right field. Karla Ford followed with a double up the middle and Dirbie Day went deep left field for a double and collected two runs batted in (RBIs).
Day stole third base as Carissa Reed drove Day home with a ground ball to the right. Maypearl led 3-0 and with two outs, Stormie Walters drew a walk. Brittany Dearin got down a bunt single. Freshman Abby Eastwood hit a hard single to right field and Reed came home.
The Panthers led 4-0 going into the second inning. Widner retired the Lions in order in the top of the second inning. Jones led off again and singled again for Maypearl. She was left on base by the third out of the inning, and in the top of the third, Widner struck out one. She snagged a line drive as did Day and the Lions were out in order.
The Panthers wasted a lead-off double by Emily Taylor, as they failed to score in the bottom of the third. Widner struck out two batters in the top of the fourth inning. Ford, a shortstop, threw out a Lion at first base as the score still stood 4-0 heading into the bottom of the inning. With one out in the bottom of the fourth, Day drew a walk and stole second and third. Reed drove Day home with a double. Walters drove Reed home with a double of her own. Taylor then hit an RBI double and Michell Pearson came in to run. Walters drove Pearson home with the third two-base hit of the inning and the Maypearl lead swelled to 7-0. In the top of the fifth, WIdner struck out a pair of Lions. Reed made a great catch at second base and the Lions were out in order in the fifth. Jones, Ford and Day all scored in the bottom of the fifth. And the game was over via the run-rule. As of press time, Maypearl was to play the Grandview Lady Zibras.
