Lady Jackets payback Crandall
FERRIS – In a rematch of the top two softball teams in district 13-3A, the Ferris Lady Jackets avenged their only loss in district by beating the Crandall Lady Pirates 6-4 on Friday, April 11.
The win puts Ferris (23-5, 8-1) and Crandall (18-4, 8-1) tied for first place in the district standings.
If both teams win their last district game (which they probably will), they will be co-district champions and there will be a one game playoff to decide who gets the first round bye in the playoffs.
The game was the last home game for this year’s seniors and took place after they were recognized for their hard work and dedication.
After the festivities, the game took off with a bang.
The Lady Jackets took the lead quickly by scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning.
Crandall answered immediately by jamming all four of their runs into the top of the second inning to take the lead 4-2.
After that, the Lady Jackets began to chip away at the deficit.
The key hit of the game was by Cassey Savell who had an RBI triple to tie the game at four a piece.
Right after that Magan Markgraf laid down a bunt to score Savell and take a 5-4 lead.
Ferris would tack on an insurance run later in the game to seal the deal.
Lauren Biffle pitched the whole game for the Lady Jackets. She allowed eight hits and struck out three batters while hitting an RBI single herself.
Kaytlin Griffith also had a single as did Samantha Duran.
To go along with the clutch triple, Savell also had a single.
Marissa Koetting showed her stuff at the plate by hitting two singles, a triple and getting two RBIs.
Maggie Sands went 4-4 with two doubles and two singles.
All in all it was a good team effort and it looks as if the Ferris Lady Jackets will make it three years in a row as district champs.
