Red Oak Hawks playoff run ends
RED OAK - The Lady Hawks and Hawks varsity soccer teams’ playoff run ended on April 1 at Dallas Kincaide Stadium in Dallas.
The Lady Hawks played the Lady Mustangs from Richardson JJ Pierce High School and the Hawks played the Pirates from Mesquite Poteet High School.
With warmer temperatures, the Hawk fans were out in numbers to support both teams in their semi-final championship games.
Lady Hawks had the early game and they were able to score first at around the 12 minute mark, but that would be the last goal for the Lady Hawks.
The Lady Mustangs soon tied the game, but both teams continued to get shots on goal.
It would be the Lady Mustangs who would strike next to break the tie and eventually add one more insurance goal to ice the game.
The Lady Hawks lost 3-1.
The boy’s game was a defensive and physical game.
The Hawks played the game minus one of their top offensive players, Paul Yzaguirre due to fouls in their win over Crowley.
Both teams traded shots on goal throughout the game and both keepers were outstanding.
It looked as if the game would go into an extra period, but with 45 seconds left in the game, the Pirates were able to get a questionable goal past the Hawks keeper Ethan Wood.
After a collision in front of the Hawks goal, the Pirates were able to get a header shot into the net.
The clock finally ran out on what was a remarkable run into the playoffs.
Both teams played well enough to continue into the playoffs, but just couldn’t catch a break, or bounce, in their last game.
The tradition of playoff soccer will continue at Red Oak High School with returning players from this year’s teams and some outstanding players moving up from the JV teams.
Congratulations to both the Lady Hawks and Hawks for great and memorable season of soccer.
