Ferris hosts annual Tessei Relays

FERRIS – On Thursday, March 13, Ferris High School hosted the annual Tessei Relays.
Out of 11 schools competing at the track meet the boys placed sixth and the Lady Jackets placed fifth.
Both were just one team point away from tying the school ahead of them.
Payden Bertrand placed third in the discus and Trey Moore placed sixth in the long jump to give the boys their only field medals.
In the running events Moore also placed fifth in the 200 meter dash and Ray Moreno placed fifth in the 3200 meter run.
Moreno placed fifth in the 1600 meter run as well.
Jose Nava and Tanner Bodine took fifth and sixth in the 800 meter run.
Ethan Selman placed fourth in the 100 meter hurdles and second in the 300 meter hurdles.
James Hopkins placed third in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.78 seconds.
The relay teams did well by placing in all three relays. They placed fourth in the 400 meter relay, 800 meter relay and the 1600 meter relay.
For the girls’ field events Tiffany Carey placed fifth in the long jump and Jasmine West placed fifth in the shot put.
Amber Hippard also placed fifth in the 3200 meter and 1600 meter runs.
Megan Markgraf placed second in the 800 meter run and Jaime Hopkins, James’ brother, won the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.68 seconds.
The girls’ relay teams did even better than the boys. They placed third in the 400 meter relay, fifth in the 800 meter relay, and first in the 1600 meter relay.
The JV teams didn’t do too shabby either.
The boys placed third overall and the girls finished fifth.
This was a good showing for the Jackets who were competing against every school in their district except for Mabank.
