Lady Jackets blow by the competition

FERRIS – The Ferris Lady Jackets softball (16-4, 1-0 in district) dominated three different teams in a span of five days and were rewarded for their troubles. They are the top ranked area team in 3A and under according to The Dallas Morning News.
They’ve achieved that ranking by beating several 4A and 5A schools and teams in 3A who are ranked high in the state such as Royse City.
The first team they beat last week was the Ranchview Wolves on Tuesday, March 11.
The Jackets gave up a run in the top of the first inning but answered back immediately and forcefully by scoring eight in the bottom of the inning.
The Jackets never looked back and cruised their way to a 15-2 victory.
Maggie Sands had a three run homerun and Lauren Biffle had an RBI triple.
Biffle also pitched the entire game. She gave up six hits and struck out nine.
The second game of the week was on Friday, March 14, against the Kemp Yellow Jackets.
It was the first district game for both teams, but Ferris definitely came out of the contest feeling better about themselves than Kemp.
The Lady Jackets run-ruled Kemp 16-1 so that the game was called off in the fifth inning.
Ferris gave up only one hit, which funnily enough, was an inside the park homerun and Kemp’s only run of the game.
However, it didn’t matter by then because the Lady Jackets were so far ahead in the first place.
Biffle also hit an inside the park homerun to help out herself out on the mound.
Marissa Koetting hit three singles, Cassey Savell hit a single and a triple, and Kaytlin Griffith had two singles.
Their last and most competitive game of the week was against the Waxahachie Indians (14-6) on the following day.
The Lady Jackets came out swinging in the first inning and built a 4-0 lead by the time they were done batting.
Savell hit a two RBI, basses loaded single that scored the first two runs, and Lady Indian errors scored the next two.
Ferris scored two more in the second inning off of Sands’ inside the park homerun and two more in the seventh thanks to hits by Biffle, Samantha Duran and Megan Markgraf.
