Hawks face district leaders to start the New Year
RED OAK - The Hawks hosted second place West Mesquite on Tuesday, Jan. 3 in a critical 15-4A match up.
The Hawks got behind early to a red hot Wrangler’s shooting team in the first period.
The Hawks were able to slowly get back into the game and were within one point at halftime.
The third period stayed close as each team made several three and four point runs, but neither could put the game away.
Through most of the fourth, the Hawks were still within striking distance, until around the 5:00 minute mark when West Mesquite caught fire again and just couldn’t miss, while the Hawks struggled to get their shots to fall and in the end, the Wranglers left Red Oak with a 68-50 win.
The Hawks next game was not any easier as they tipped off against district leading Lancaster on the road.
By halftime the Hawks were only down five points, but the third and fourth periods saw the Tigers pull away and eventually win 62-46 moving to 7-0 in district while the Hawks fell to 4-2 hanging on to the third spot in the district.
