Lady Hawks come up big
RED OAK - The Lady Hawks were sitting at 0-3 in District play and looking at going 0-4 as they hosted the #4 team in the district, the Lancaster Lady Tigers.
The Lady Hawks came out and took it to the Lady Tigers and jumped out to an 11-0 lead with just over two minutes left in the first before Lancaster would score a basket.
By halftime however, the Lady Tigers started to get into their game and outscored the Lady Hawks 15-6, but were only up one.
The second half of the game was a see saw battle, but it was the last few minutes that were the most exciting.
As both teams were in the double bonus nearly every trip to the hoop ended in a foul and free throws, Red Oak’s Taylor McCullough picked a good time to take the game over and her teammates followed suit.
The Lady Hawks were up by three and shooting two shots with six seconds left and could put the game away, but both shots missed their mark.
After a time out by Lancaster they in-bounded the ball only to find an aggressive defense slowing their process down the court forcing Lancaster to take a half court shot that missed as the buzzer sounded and that buzzer sound was likely the best sound the Lady Hawks had heard in sometime.
The Lady Hawks picked up their first district win 38-35 over a good Lancaster team.
