RED OAK - Although school let out Friday, Nov. 25 the Hawks basketball teams had a couple of non-district games before Thanksgiving.

The first game was on Monday, Nov. 21 against Dallas Adamson High School.

The Freshman and JV teams had the early games and both used their speed and outside shooting to open up big leads which eventually led to fast break lay ups later in the game.

Both ran away with their games with double digit wins.

The varsity, not to be out done, also got out to a quick start, but Adamson hung around for a half.

It was in the second half where the Hawks took control.

Adamson could not stop the Hawks from cutting inside and getting easy baskets.

Jeremiah Gaines nearly had a dunk, but was fouled on the way up to the basket.

Late in the fourth and up big, the Hawks moved the ball around to run the clock out for the 68-40 win.

On Tuesday, Nov. 22, the Hawks faced 5A Mesquite Horn in another non-district game.

The freshman team got behind early and never got close.

They faced a double digit deficit all game and were down big at halftime.

The JV game however, was a different story and the best game of the night.

The Hawks had a chance to likely win the game at the free throw line, but missed two shots giving Horn 9.6 seconds left in a tie game.

Horn moved the ball down the court and with patience, moved the ball around and finally got a running floater to fall to take the lead with 1.4 seconds left.

The Hawks did what they could to get a realistic shot, but came up short and as Coach Bowen stated, “that game was 10 seconds to long” as the JV fell 44-42.

The varsity game started out pretty even with both teams pressing and flying up and down the court.

However, the Hawks shooting was off, especially from the outside and Horn was racing to the other end on missed shots and extending their lead each procession.

The Hawks looked a step slower than Mesquite and overall it was just a tough night for the Hawks. They just couldn’t find their rhythm and lost to Mesquite Horn.

The Hawks will return home in December for the home district opener against Waxahachie. Freshman and JV start at 5:30 p.m. and varsity around 7:30 p.m.

Come out and support your Hawks as they begin district play.
